Here at Twisted Roots Vineyard we believe in letting the grapes speak for themselves. We feel that our work in the vineyard is the reason our wines get their flavor and overall complexity. From our attention to soil nutrient balance in the vineyard, to our barrel-fermentation, and small production each year, we feel as though we can produce a product that showcases the grape and the Lodi appellation. As a part of our philosophy of "let the fruit speak for it's self", we decided to use neutral French oak barrels to ferment and age some of our Red and White wines. By the time a barrel is about 5 years old, it is virtually neutral as far as its influence on the taste of the wine, and is used as a vessel for ageing without imparting flavors. This allows the grapes, either red or white, to express more of their natural flavors as you drink, instead of being over whelmed with oak tastes. As the wine goes through secondary fermentation in these neutral barrels, it takes on some of the very subtle oak flavors, which are a distant second to the grapes.Twisted Roots will introduce its first Chardonnay in the Spring of 2010, to be followed later in the year by a Cabernet Sauvignon. Twisted Roots popular Petite Sirah will continue to be offered and a new 2010 vintage will soon follow. Plans are in the making to bottle a"1918 Old Vine Zin" in 2011.
